Overseas Precision Installation in Mine | WEIGHT WORTH 600-ton Intelligent Weighbridge Empowers Oyu Tolgoi Mine of Rio Tinto with Smart Measurement

Recently, WEIGHT WORTH has successfully completed the full-process installation, radar calibration, comprehensive commissioning and acceptance of a 600-ton intelligent industrial weighbridge at the Oyu Tolgoi Mine of Rio Tinto in Mongolia.
Equipped with both a heavy-duty weighing system and a built-in lidar cargo volume detection module, the equipment realizes dual-dimensional intelligent verification of weight and volume. Having passed the strict quality inspection of the mining area, the system has been officially put into use in the whole process of ore transportation, material measurement and freight risk control.
It builds a high-precision smart measurement system for this world-class copper-gold mine and demonstrates the brand's leading technological strength in the field of heavy-duty intelligent weighing.
Located in the South Gobi Province of Mongolia, Oyu Tolgoi Mine is a core mineral project of Rio Tinto Group. Characterized by typical Gobi landforms, the mining area suffers from frequent sandstorms, sharp temperature differences between day and night, and dense heavy-duty mining trucks. In addition, copper and gold ores are complex in categories with irregular material accumulation.
Traditional weighing methods are prone to density misjudgment and manual measurement loopholes, placing extremely high requirements on comprehensive detection capabilities of equipment. With the integrated solution of mine-specific heavy-duty weighbridge and intelligent lidar volume measurement, WEIGHT WORTH successfully won the tender for this highly demanding project.
The customized 600-ton intelligent heavy-duty weighbridge is independently developed by WEIGHT WORTH for extreme mining working conditions. The weighbridge platform adopts an enhanced high-strength alloy steel structure with excellent impact resistance and compression resistance, adapting to frequent passes of heavy-duty mining trucks.
Equipped with high-precision digital weighing sensors and exclusive anti-interference algorithms, the equipment effectively resists dust, sandstorms and electromagnetic interference in mining areas to ensure stable and accurate weighing data.
Different from ordinary weighbridges, this model is integrated with an industrial multi-line lidar detection system, which serves as the core priority of the commissioning work.
During the commissioning phase, WEIGHT WORTH's overseas technical team focused on the accurate calibration of the lidar volume detection system. Engineers optimized the radar installation angle and scanning range, conducting non-contact 3D scanning on moving mining trucks through high-frequency laser technology.
A 3D point cloud model of cargo was generated via cloud algorithms to eliminate carriage interference and calculate ore loading volume with centimeter-level measurement accuracy. Meanwhile, the team completed data linkage commissioning between the weighing system and the lidar volume measurement system.
Real-time synchronized dual data achieves mutual verification, effectively avoiding measurement deviations caused by ore density differences, overloading, insufficient loading and manual cheating. Designed for a wide temperature range of -40℃ to 65℃, the equipment operates stably 24/7 despite harsh Gobi climates.

Complying with international mine safety specifications, the overseas technical team overcame adverse conditions including sandstorms, dry weather and complicated cross-border procedures. All procedures such as foundation pouring, equipment assembly, wiring layout, weighing calibration, radar debugging and linkage testing were completed efficiently. After multiple heavy-load rolling tests and repeated volume scanning verification, the equipment obtained official acceptance from Rio Tinto Mine with qualified weighing accuracy, volume measurement precision and system linkage stability.
After official operation, the 600-ton intelligent weighbridge undertakes measurement and management work for copper-gold ore, tailings and heavy-duty transport vehicles in the mining area. Supported by the dual detection mode of weighing and lidar volume measurement, it accurately collects weight and volume data of materials. The system enables digital traceability of mineral inbound and outbound records as well as standardized freight supervision, eliminating measurement losses and risk loopholes while promoting refined, intelligent and standardized mine management to reduce operational costs significantly.
